Enhanced geophysical data (especially long wavelength satellite gravity) integrated with numerical models illustrate the controls on Au, REE, and many other critical mineral deposits by:
- sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) domain margins formed by ductile dripping and rifting, and
- reactivated lithospheric-scale structures, commonly at a high angle to those mapped at the surface and previously unrecognised.
Examples will focus on F-REE-barite deposits in Türkiye, including the Late Oligocene Kizilçaören deposit (recently purported to contain the world’s second largest REE reserve after China) and Au and critical minerals in the Archaean Superior Province and Proterozoic Grenville Province, Canada. Comparisons will be briefly made with some other mineralised regions in S America and Norway.
