  • Research program title: Towards a Carbon Governance Living Lab: Designing and Testing Local Decarbonization Governance Experiments
  • Supervisor(s): Adriane MacDonald, PhD

Program description (up to 200 words):

  • Addressing complex sustainability challenges like climate change requires coordinated actions from organizations of all types, including governments, businesses, and non-profit agencies. An
  • increasingly popular way that organizations are enacting their social responsibility to these challenges is through participation in living labs.
  • This program of research aims to map the existing local carbon governance experiments in Canada, co-create a carbon governance living lab, explore its viability, testing, and evaluating different interventions, and create a replicable framework based on lessons learned from the pilot living lab and the database of carbon governance experiments.
  • The postdoctoral fellow will focus on understanding the role of living labs in socio-ecological transitions and applying that research to the design of carbon governance experiments in the Canadian context. They will be expected to contribute expertise to the design and implementation of research protocols (e.g., surveys, interview protocols, and coding schemes) and collect data for this project.
  • They will also participate in the PI’s research teams and mentor research assistants and graduate students.
  • The postdoctoral fellow will also be expected to initiate, and collaborate on, other research projects on multi-stakeholder sustainability partnerships, and sustainable development more broadly.
